Welcome to Utah Association of Health Underwriters!
UAHU will improve its members' ability to meet the health, financial and retirement security needs of all Utah residents through education, advocacy and professional development.  Our vision is for all of Utah to have access to private sector solutions for health insurance and the services of insurance professionals. In fulfilling its mission, the UAHU board strongly believes its responsibility is to not only engage but lead in the current health care reform debate.  As liaison between the insurance carrier, small business owner and individual/family policyholder we're  perfectly positioned to advance reform and advocate change that will have real impact on cost of health care delivery thereby reducing health insurance premiums and making it more affordable for individuals who, up to now, have remained outside the "insured realm". We strongly advocate low-income individuals who cannot afford health insurance premiums to receive government financial assistance to obtain coverage. Consumerism: Market Base Reform

The Value of Your Membership!

By Ernie Sweat, CEBS, UAHU Vice President

To Quantify value we must take a close look at the role UAHU plays for each of us. Following is a listing of tasks that UAHU fills as well as an attempt at an imputed value:

  1. National Legislation:  The only voice of reason that is truly attempting to educate our policy makers with regard to the costs of socialized medicine and the delivery of affordable care to our citizenry is the National Association of Health Underwriters.  Our discussions with Congress and the eventual chief executive will go a long way in determining future health care related legislation.
  2. State Legislation:  Many political experts feel that any real reform that affects health policyholders will come on the state level.
  3. Department of Insurance Relationship:  Historically, UAHU members have been asked for input and assistance on role in forming policy
  4. Education:  Each chapter holds monthly meetings for members that typically involve at least one hour of continued education.  You get certificates of completion.
  5. Leadership Opportunity:  UAHU is a great leadership training ground.
  6. Camaraderie:  Many members will state that one of the best reasons to join UAHU is to have the opportunity to interact with and learn from their peers.

Every task mentioned is something that any successful member of this industry must accomplish, yet it would be next to impossible to do them without your help.  There is a reason that so many members hold the organization in such esteem. It is also why we tend to scratch our heads a bit when we meet someone actively involved in the industry who has no yet joined.  Perhaps we all could do a better job of communicating what UAHU brings to the table for each and every one of us.  <PRICELESS VALUE>
